Don Bosco College Golaghat Observes International Day against Drug Abuse, Spurs Community Pledge for a Drug-Free Life

Golaghat, June 26, 2026 — The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Don Bosco College observed the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with a focused awareness programme aimed at educating volunteers and local residents about the harmful effects of substance abuse and the importance of leading a healthy, drug-free life. The event brought together college volunteers and villagers to promote prevention, family support, and community action against drug misuse.

The programme opened with a brief address by NSS Programme Coordinator Miss Marina Lakra, who emphasized the significance of the day and urged volunteers to serve as ambassadors of a drug-free society. She called on the youth to take responsibility, support peers, and use education and community networks to resist the lure of drugs. Her remarks set the tone for the day’s outreach activities and reinforced the college’s commitment to public health and social welfare.

NSS volunteers actively engaged with the local community, communicating the physical, mental, social, and economic consequences of substance abuse. Through direct conversations, the volunteers encouraged youth to avoid drugs and highlighted the crucial role of family support, education, and collective community participation in preventing addiction and promoting recovery.

To enhance visibility, volunteers displayed awareness banners in public areas across Rangajan, targeting spaces frequented by young people and residents. The banners, combined with person-to-person outreach, helped convey simple prevention messages and practical steps for seeking help, contributing to wider community understanding.

The awareness programme received a warm and positive response from villagers, who appreciated the initiative and expressed support for ongoing prevention efforts. The activity succeeded in educating participants about the need for coordinated local action and demonstrated how youth-led efforts can strengthen community resilience against drug-related challenges.

The event concluded with a solemn pledge by volunteers and community members to remain committed to a drug-free life and to continue spreading awareness in their neighbourhoods. The NSS unit reiterated its readiness to collaborate with families, local leaders, and institutions to sustain these efforts and build a healthier, safer community.
