Golaghat, June 29, 2026 — The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Don Bosco College, Golaghat, successfully held a seven-day NSS Special Camp from June 22–28, 2026, at Rangajan 3 No. Gaon. The entire event focused on the theme, “Youth for Environmental Sustainability”. The camp aimed to promote community service, environmental awareness, and social responsibility among 450 local youth, villagers, children and residents of Golaghat district at large and in particular Rangajan and other areas.
The programme was inaugurated at Jibon Jyoti School, Rangajan, with Fr. L. Alayee, Vice Principal of Don Bosco College, as Chief Guest and Mr. Abhinav Todi, IQAC Coordinator, as Guest of Honour. In their addresses, they underlined the importance of selfless service, youth leadership, and environmental stewardship. The inauguration featured the NSS motto and song, and included a ceremonial sapling plantation to mark the start of the week’s activities.
Twenty-five NSS volunteers engaged in a range of community-focused initiatives throughout the week. On the second day, volunteers conducted a household survey covering 75 households to collect data on education, health, sanitation, occupation, and other socio-economic indicators, helping the unit assess local needs and plan interventions. The third day saw a cleanliness drive along the Golaghat–Halmira Road, during which volunteers cleared public waste and raised awareness about sanitation and proper waste management practices.
A plantation drive held on the fourth day promoted environmental conservation and encouraged villagers to protect and nurture the newly planted saplings. On June 26, the NSS Unit observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by organizing an awareness campaign; volunteers interacted with residents, displayed informational banners, and appealed to the youth to avoid substance abuse and contribute to a drug-free society. The sixth day featured games and recreational activities for 100 village children, designed to foster teamwork, confidence, discipline, and stronger community bonds.
The camp concluded with a valedictory ceremony on June 28, during which volunteers shared their experiences, winners of various competitions received prizes, and organisers and local community members acknowledged the collective efforts that made the programme a success. Ms. Marina Lakra, NSS Programme Coordinator, expressed gratitude to the villagers, volunteers, faculty members, and dignitaries for their wholehearted support and noted that the week reflected the spirit of the NSS motto “Not Me But You” by instilling values of service, teamwork, environmental responsibility, and community engagement among participants.
