Doomdooma, June 5: In a remarkable demonstration of environmental commitment and community participation, Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Doomdooma, under the able leadership of Dr. Fr. Amil Kujur sdb the principal of the school, celebrated World Environment Day 2026 with a series of awareness programmes, competitions, and large-scale tree plantation activities. The event, held from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 3,008 students, 94 teachers, and members of the Past Pupils Association of Doomdooma, who collaborated with the school in organizing the celebration.
The programme was graced by Mr Muhammad Samshuldin, a representative of the Past Pupils Association and its Local President, Provincial Delegate, and Assistant President, attended the event as Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest delivered a powerful message on environmental responsibility, urging everyone to embrace the spirit of the campaign “Each One Plant a Tree for Entire Humanity.” He emphasized that every sapling planted today is an investment in the future and a tangible contribution to combating climate change and ecological degradation.
The celebration commenced with an awareness drive designed to sensitize students to the pressing environmental challenges facing the planet. A thought-provoking five-to-seven-minute skit highlighted issues such as pollution, deforestation, and climate change, while students displayed colourful placards carrying environmental messages and slogans. The campaign slogan “Don Bosco Go Green” resonated throughout the campus, inspiring students to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
One of the highlights of the programme was the extensive tree plantation drive, in which students from LKG to Class X actively participated by planting saplings within and around the school premises. The initiative reflected the school’s commitment to fostering ecological consciousness and nurturing a culture of environmental stewardship among young learners.
Senior students of Classes XI and XII engaged in intellectual and creative activities centred on the World Environment Day theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” An essay-writing competition provided a platform for students to articulate their ideas on environmental sustainability, while a poster-making competition showcased their artistic talents and concern for the planet. These activities encouraged critical thinking and creative expression on contemporary environmental issues.
Speaking on the occasion, school authorities noted that environmental conservation is not merely an annual observance but a continuous responsibility that requires collective action. They encouraged students to become ambassadors of ecological awareness in their homes and communities by practising waste reduction, water conservation, and tree planting.
The celebration concluded with a renewed pledge by students and staff to work towards a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future. Through its vibrant and participatory observance of World Environment Day, Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Doomdooma, once again demonstrated its commitment to holistic education and the cultivation of environmentally responsible citizens.The event served as a powerful reminder that when young people are inspired and empowered, they can become effecive agents of change in building a healthier planet for future generations.
