World Environment Day was observed with great enthusiasm at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Baghchung, Jorhat. The programme aimed to create awareness among the students about the importance of protecting and preserving our environment for future generations.
The day began with a meaningful assembly talk delivered by Rev. Fr. Angel Kuldeep SDB for the senior students in the senior school building, while Fr. Amalraj SDB the Vice Principal addressed the students of the junior section. Both highlighted the need to care for nature and encouraged the students to become responsible protectors of the environment.
To mark the occasion, a drawing competition was organized for the students. Separate categories were arranged for Classes I to V and Classes VI to XII. From the various clubs, five members each were selected to participate in the competition. The theme chosen for the event was “Together for a Greener Tomorrow.” The students creatively expressed their concern and hope for a cleaner and greener world through their drawings.
To judge the competition, an eminent personality from Don Bosco i-CARD was invited. Mr. Preetom Mahanta from Makerspace – The Hub, Jorhat Bosco Institute, graciously served as the judge for the competition. The best drawings were awarded points for their respective clubs. In his message, the chief guest emphasized that every individual has a duty to safeguard the environment from pollution, deforestation, and harmful human activities. He encouraged the students to reduce the use of plastic, plant more trees, conserve water, and keep their surroundings clean. He also reminded the students that small actions done with care can bring great change to the world.
The drawing competition became a beautiful way for students to imagine and express how they wish to see the future of our environment and surroundings. The entire programme inspired the students to develop love and responsibility towards Mother Earth.
