World Youth Day 2023 Unites Young Pilgrims in a Celebration of Faith and Culture

Lisbon: 1 August 2023: World Youth Day Lisbon 2023 is underway from 1 August to 6 August, bringing together young people from all over the world to share in the Christian experience. A contingent from our province, led by Fr Nebu Mathew SDB, is actively participating in this grand event. The members attending are Mr Wilfred Pienyii, Mr Godfrey Pienyii, Ms Sudziine Kayina, Ms Sonia Takam, Ms Tina Ringu, and Fr Nebu Mathew SDB.

The Youth Festival at WYD Lisbon 2023 offers a diverse range of cultural, religious, and sporting events, showcasing the creativity and generosity of young people. The festival includes events in the areas of Music, Cinema, Exhibitions, Theatre, Dance, Conferences, and Religious Events. More than 100 musical groups from around the world will perform on 9 stages, presenting various musical styles from rock to classical. Conferences will cover topics like vocation, mission, and current challenges faced by young people.

The Vocational Fair, featuring “150 houses” from different movements, associations, communities, and religious orders, offers young pilgrims the opportunity to encounter various charisms and deepen their spirituality. The fair focuses on themes like Christ as the center, encounter with God and others, evangelization, and joy.

In addition to the central events in Lisbon, the Youth Festival’s joy will spread to other host cities and towns through the “ALL AROUND” programme, where local groups can organize events to share their culture and religion with pilgrims.

The Reconciliation Park, designed with sustainability and inclusivity in mind, offers 150 confessionals for the sacrament of Reconciliation. It symbolizes the call for young people to experience God’s love and mercy and be inspired to reach out to others.

Throughout the festival, the Talks of Joy, Testimonies, One2One conversations, and the Chapel of the City of Joy provide spaces for prayer, reflection, and encounter with Christ.

The Youth Festival and Vocational Fair aim to unite young people from diverse backgrounds, celebrate their faith, and inspire them to embrace their role as missionaries spreading the message of love and joy to the world.

With a renewed spirit, the pilgrims will conclude the event on 6 August, ready to embark on their missions with enthusiasm and hope.
