Dimapur 19 July 2023: Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur, marked a momentous occasion as it celebrated its first Graduation Day on Wednesday, 19 July 2023, at Bernick’s Hall. The joyous event was dedicated to felicitating the Class of 2020-23, whose hard work and dedication have brought them to this significant milestone. The ceremony witnessed the outstanding achievements of two remarkable students: Sr. Flory Lalmangaihi MSMHC from the English department and Cl. Martin Hentry OFM from the Philosophy department, both securing the top positions in Nagaland University.
The Graduation Day was graced by the presence of Prof. Dr. Akali Sema, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, School of Agricultural Studies Medziphema campus, who honoured the occasion as the chief guest. Among other distinguished guests were Fr. V. A Thomas, Rector of the college, Fr. Paul Punii, the college’s Principal, Fr. Jason, Rector of Good Shepherd Seminary in Dimapur, Heads of various Departments, Assistant Professors, and proud parents of the graduates.
The festivities commenced with a grand academic procession, led by the dignitaries, Heads of various departments, and teachers, followed by the beaming graduating students. The ceremony commenced with an invocation by Fr. V. A Thomas, followed by the national anthem.
In his inspiring commencement address, Fr. Dr. Paul Punii SDB, congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to pursue their dreams as they embark on this new chapter of life. He urged them to be agents of positive change in society and emphasized the importance of their unique skills and contributions.
The program continued with a soulful welcome song performed by the 5th-semester students. The Heads of Departments then proudly called the graduates to the stage, where they received well-deserved medals and certificates from the esteemed chief guest, Prof. Akali Sema, and other dignitaries. Sr. Flory Lalmangaihi MSMHC and Cl. Martin Henry OFM, the two recipients of the prestigious gold medals, expressed their gratitude for the support they received from the college administration, faculty, and fellow students. They also motivated their juniors to work diligently and maintain discipline to achieve excellence.
In an emotionally stirring speech, Prof. Akali Sema shared her childhood struggles and the determination that propelled her to overcome all challenges. She advised the graduates to put God at the center of their endeavours and strive to be exemplary individuals whose actions inspire others to create positive change in society.
The day’s proceedings concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from Mrs. Vitsino Haikam, Head of the Department of English. She extended her warmest congratulations to the graduates and reminded them of the valuable education they received at the institution, equipping them with knowledge, skills, and experience as a strong foundation for their chosen paths. The event was further embellished with colourful performances of songs, dance, and instrumental pieces, adding a vibrant hue to the celebration.
The Graduation Day at Salesian College of Higher Education will undoubtedly remain etched in the memories of the graduates and all those present as a testament to the institute’s commitment to shaping bright futures and fostering leaders of tomorrow.
