Don Fabio Attard has been elected the 11th successor of Don Bosco, marking a historic moment for the Salesian Congregation. Chosen during the 29th General Chapter, he brings extensive theological, pastoral, and academic experience to lead the Salesians in their global mission for youth, especially the marginalized.
Born in Gozo, Malta, in 1959, Don Attard joined the Salesians in 1980 and was ordained in 1987. He has served as a missionary, rector, academic, and global leader in youth ministry, notably as General Councilor for Youth Ministry (2008-2020). His contributions include the Salesian Youth Pastoral Framework (2013) and international initiatives addressing youth challenges.
As Rector Major, he will lead 13,750 Salesians in 136 nations, continuing Don Bosco’s mission of education, evangelization, and social transformation. His election signals a renewed commitment to empowering young people worldwide.
