Thirty-seven members of the Salesian Family of the Dimapur Province participated in a three-day spiritual and pedagogical animation held from February 12–14 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Dimapur. The program combined a recollection for Brothers in Practical Training with a two-day animation on Salesian Pedagogy conducted by the SPCSA National Office.
The recollection, held on February 12 and animated by Vice Provincial Fr. Deli Kapani David SDB, included guided meditation, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, providing participants with an opportunity for spiritual renewal.
The pedagogical animation that took place on February 13–14 was part of the South Asia animation initiative for the Salesian Family. The sessions were facilitated by Fr. P.D. Johny SDB, Secretary, SPCSA and Secretary AIDBES and Fr. Patrick Lepcha SDB (Director, DBYA). The Vice Provincial welcomed the participants and outlined the program’s objectives.
Participants included Salesians of Don Bosco (SDBs), FMA Sisters, Salesian Cooperators, MSMHC Sisters, VSDB Sisters, and Disciples Sisters.
The animation aimed to deepen understanding of Don Bosco’s life and educational vision, strengthen the practice of the Preventive System based on Reason, Religion, and Loving-Kindness, promote a culture of accompaniment and Salesian presence, and equip educators to create safe, engaging, and value-based learning environments.
The first day, themed “Rediscovering Don Bosco and His Education,” focused on Don Bosco as an educator and the enduring relevance of his Preventive System. Participants reflected on his vision of the Oratory as a holistic environment – a Home that welcomes, a School that educates, a Parish that evangelizes, and a Playground that fosters joyful relationships. The three pillars of the Preventive System – Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness – were revisited as the foundation of Salesian pedagogy, highlighting the educator’s role as a constant, caring presence. Emphasis was placed on the key values of Presence and Accompaniment, underscoring that true Salesian education is rooted in loving relationships that guide young people toward integral growth and faith.
The second day, “Educating with the Heart: Salesian Pedagogy in Practice,” focused on practical classroom approaches inspired by Don Bosco, building protective environments, nurturing a person-centered teaching style, and strengthening evaluation practices.
The sessions employed an interactive methodology that included presentations, video inputs, group discussions, quizzes, and participatory activities. Feedback from participants highlighted the program’s practical relevance and enriching nature, with particular appreciation for the engaging animation and the inspiring experiences shared by the resource persons.
The program concluded at 4:00 PM on February 14 with a vote of thanks proposed by Cl. Elow Stephen, SDB. Participants departed with renewed motivation, a deeper appreciation of the Salesian charism, and a strengthened commitment to accompany young people through a spirit of presence, care, and joyful education.
